The I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali is one of Indonesia’s busiest gateways, welcoming millions of travelers from around the world each year. As part of its major expansion and modernization program, the airport underwent extensive upgrades to improve safety, efficiency, and passenger experience.
The project required a robust and reliable drainage and utility access system to support high traffic in critical areas such as the apron, runway, and surrounding infrastructure. Given the exposure to heavy aircraft loads, tropical weather, and operational demands, only materials with the highest durability and precision could be used.
Supplying Ductile Iron Manhole Covers & Gratings
Infiniferro played a vital role in this development by supplying an extensive selection of ductile iron manhole covers and cast iron gratings in various sizes to accommodate different applications across the airport.
The supplied products included:
· Ductile Iron Manhole Covers: D600, D650, D500, 750x550x100 mm, 700x700x100 mm, 600x600x100 mm, 500x500x100 mm, 450x450x100 mm, 1675x1165x103 mm, 1680x620x103 mm, and 750x750x105 mm.
· Cast Iron Gratings: 1000x420x105 mm.
The manhole covers were installed throughout the apron area, serving as protective access points for the airport’s underground utilities and drainage systems. Meanwhile, the gratings were strategically used at the border area between the apron and the runway, providing efficient water drainage to maintain dry, safe, and stable surfaces for aircraft operations.
Technical Excellence & Product Durability
All Infiniferro products supplied for the Bali Airport expansion were engineered to meet international load-bearing standards and ISO 9001-certified quality control.
The ductile iron material provides exceptional tensile strength, impact resistance, and flexibility—key characteristics that ensure performance even under the heaviest aircraft movements.
The gratings feature an advanced slot design that optimizes water flow while preventing clogging from debris. Their anti-corrosion coating extends lifespan, particularly in coastal regions like Bali, where exposure to salt air and humidity poses unique challenges.
Each manhole cover was precision-manufactured for easy installation, perfect surface fit, and long-term reliability. Infiniferro’s production process ensures dimensional accuracy, tight sealing, and resistance to vibration and displacement—critical for areas exposed to continuous load cycles.
